What is PDF markup software?
PDF markup software lets you comment on a drawing without changing the drawing: revision clouds, callouts, text, stamps and dimensions placed over the sheet, each one carrying a subject, a status and a reply thread. Is there free PDF markup software?
Redline Free costs nothing and covers review markup — clouds, callouts, text, stamps, pen and highlighter — reading the markups already in a PDF, up to 3 saved drawings and a flattened PDF export with a small footer. Calibrated length and area are on Plus, and full takeoff on Pro. General PDF readers also comment for free, but none of them calibrate a sheet or total a quantity.
Can PDF markup software measure a drawing?
Only if it can calibrate the sheet first. A PDF stores geometry in points, not metres, so a tool without calibration can report a distance on paper but not a distance in the building. Once calibrated, Redline PDF measures lengths, areas, perimeters, volumes, angles and counts, takes deductions and subtotals by subject.
Will markups I make open in Adobe Acrobat or Bluebeam Revu?
Yes, if they are exported as annotations rather than flattened. Redline PDF Plus and Pro write standard PDF annotation objects, which other professional PDF tools open, edit and reply to. It also reads the annotations already in a drawing someone sends you, so a review can travel both ways.
