THE EDITOR ON THE SAMPLE DRAWING

Calibrated, measured,
and listed.

One length and two room areas, measured after calibrating to the printed 5 000 mm reference on sheet A101. Each one is a row in the markups list with its page, status, layer and value, ready to take out as CSV. Open the same sample in the demo →

Redline PDF's editor on the sample drawing A101 in the Takeoff tab: a 15000 mm length across the plan, two shaded rooms measured at 16.99 and 16.41 square metres, a revision cloud with a callout on the meeting room, and the markups list below the sheet with each measurement.
Screenshot of the Takeoff tab on the bundled sample drawing: a 15 000 mm length, two areas, a revision cloud with a callout, and the markups list under the sheet.
Redline PDF's editor after the sequence: the sample drawing calibrated, with a length and an area measured and listed in the markups panel.
Fourteen seconds, muted, recorded in the editor on the same sample: calibrate the sheet, measure a length and an area, export as editable PDF annotations.
  1. Calibrate. Enter the real distance between two points. Sheets plotted at the same scale can share it, and a page that already has a scale keeps its own.
  2. Measure. Draw a length and an area. Each lands in the markups list, and the status line keeps the running total.
  3. Export. Choose the pages, the markup layers and the output; here, editable PDF annotations. Calibrated length and area and that export are part of Plus and Pro, and of the 30-day trial (plans and prices).

Upgrade when the work needs it. Plus adds clean or editable exports, printing and calibrated length and area; Pro adds full takeoff and PDF content editing. Cancel a paid plan from your workspace; access continues for the period already paid for.

THE SHORT VERSION

What Redline PDF is,
in plain terms.

Redline PDF is browser-based PDF markup and quantity takeoff software for architects, engineers, contractors and estimators. Drawings are rendered, marked up and measured in the browser itself; opening or uploading a PDF in your signed-in workspace saves it to your account automatically.

SPECIFICATION SCHEDULEREV 01
01
What it is
A browser workspace for reviewing, marking up and measuring PDF construction drawings. Sold to one person, not per seat to a firm.
02
Where it runs
Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox on Windows, macOS, Linux, iPad and Android tablets. Nothing to install; installs as an app if you want it.
03
Rendering
Vector PDF rendering in the browser. Markup geometry stays vector, on screen and in the exported file.
04
Where the work happens
In the browser. Rendering, markup, measurement and export all run on your device. Opening or uploading a drawing in your signed-in workspace automatically saves it to your account, where it is encrypted at rest. The demo uploads nothing at all.
05
Scale calibration
Per page, by clicking a known distance or entering the drawn ratio. A page without one is marked “Scale not set” rather than guessed at.
06
Measurement
Length, polyline length, area, perimeter, volume, angle, radius and count. Deductions for openings. Dynamic Fill follows the walls of an enclosed room. Totals update as you draw.
07
Counting
Manual counts, or drag a box around one symbol and find matching symbols across a page range. Matches need the same printed size and orientation, and every match is reviewed before it becomes a count.
08
Building elements
Walls with thickness, doors with swing, windows with width, columns, pipes, ducts and risers, each carrying its size.
09
Import
PDF, up to 300 MB. Reads the annotations a PDF already carries, on every plan including the free one.
10
Export
PDF with editable standard annotations that Acrobat and other professional PDF tools open and edit, flattened PDF, CSV of quantities and markups for Excel, markup summary with subtotals, and printing to scale.
11
Price
Free plan at $0. Plus at $9 a month or $90 a year, for review sets with length and area. Pro at $15 a month or $150 a year, for full takeoff. Per person. Every account begins with 30 days of Pro, no card.

GUIDES

Drawing review,
step by step.

BEFORE YOU DRAW THE LINE

PDF markup and takeoff,
answered.

Still deciding? The demo opens on a sample drawing with every tool unlocked — no account, nothing to install, nothing to undo afterwards.

Open the demo

A question that is not here? Write to us and a person answers.

Can I try it without signing up?

Yes. The demo lets you try the tools on a sample drawing, with no account or email. Demo changes are temporary. Opening your files, saving signatures and drawings, exporting, printing and downloads are part of an account, so start the 30-day trial when you want to take the finished work with you.

Will it work with the tools my colleagues use?

Yes, in both directions. Redline exports standard PDF annotations, which professional PDF tools open and edit, and it reads the annotations already in a PDF someone sends you — so their clouds and comments become markups you can answer, restyle or delete.

Can I use Redline today?

Yes. Create an account and you have 30 days with every tool, no card needed. Your drawings are saved to your private workspace, and you can download them at any time — during the trial and after it.

Who is Redline built for?

Architects, engineers and drawing reviewers who need to annotate PDFs, check dimensions, count items and communicate design changes.

What can I export?

Plus and Pro include editable PDF annotations, clean flattened PDFs, the markup summary and printing to scale, and Pro adds CSV markup and quantity reports; the trial includes all of it. Free includes flattened PDF export with a small footer.

Will my drawings be private?

Yes. A drawing is stored under your account only, encrypted on the server and never visible to another account. The editor can also keep a copy on your own disk. This page takes no uploads — your workspace does.

Does my drawing get uploaded to a server?

Yes, when you open or upload a PDF in your signed-in workspace, it is automatically saved to your account. Rendering, markup and measurement run on your device. Stored drawings are encrypted under your account and are not visible to other accounts. The demo uploads nothing at all: it runs entirely in the browser and its changes are temporary.

How accurate are measurements taken from a PDF?

A measurement is exact arithmetic on the points you place, at the scale you set — so its accuracy is decided by the calibration and by where you click. Calibrate each page against a dimension you know, then check a second known dimension before taking quantities. On a scanned sheet the paper itself may have stretched; treat small discrepancies as that sheet’s noise rather than a fact about the building. How to calibrate a drawing.

Can it count symbols automatically?

It can find them for you, and then you check them. Drag a box around one symbol and Redline PDF searches a page or a range of pages for matches of the same printed size and orientation, at a match threshold you set. Every result is reviewed page by page before it becomes a count — an unreviewed automatic count is not a quantity anyone should price from.

Can I get quantities into Excel?

Yes. Pro and the trial export a CSV carrying every measurement with its subject, its space and the unit it is reported in, which opens directly in Excel or any spreadsheet. A markup summary with subtotals by subject can also go out as a PDF for the record.

Can I see prices in my own currency?

Prices are in USD. At checkout you see an estimate in your local currency and the exact amount, including tax, before you confirm anything.
